MORE development projects are needed in Balingian, said Abdul Yakub Arbi (GPS-Balingian) as he spoke in support of the motion of appreciation to TYT’s opening address.
Yakub urged the state government to speed up the electricity supply to four longhouses in Bayan Ulu and five longhouses in Sungai Liuk through the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES) as well as to add telecommunication tower in several areas such as Setejok, Setuan Kecil, Setuan Besar, Kuala Balingian, Daerah Kecil Balingian, Sungai Liuk, Bayan Tasik, Bayan Ulu and Temesu.
He also informed that the Coastal Road Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi had visited the proposed location for Mukah Bridge II construction and Tellian bypass on Sept 4 last year where he hoped that the proposed project could be conducted as soon as possible to create an alternative route for Kuning Bridge which is the only connection route from Mukah and Balingian.
Apart from that, Yakub expressed his concerns on clean water supply to several areas namely, Daerah Kecil Balingian, Kuala Balingian, Setuan Besar, Setuan Kecil, Setejok, Sungai Maben, Bayan Tasik, Bayan Ulu, Bukit Ambun, Sungai Liuk and Temesu. He also voiced out a need to upgrade the Balingian Mini Stadium with a grand stand, track, field and lights.
Other than that, Yakub urged the related ministries to speed up the distribution process of 116 lots in Phase 1 and Phase 2 in Skim Pembesaran Kampung Baru (SPK) Balingian, 173 lots in SPK Kuala Balingian and SPK Jebungan in Mukah.
“SPK Balingian has been handed over to Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and balloting for Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme was done on August 15, 2017. However, there is no news from the related authority to date.
“This has raised questions from the residents on where the applications and ballots have gone to. Therefore, I am requesting for the second time for the Permata Scheme to be conducted in SPK Balingian,” he told the august House.
Yakub also requested for the construction of SMK Balingian through the Eleventh Malaysia Plan to be conducted as soon as possible.
“To date, there is no secondary school in Balingian and the students have to further their studies to the nearest secondary school located in Mukah which is about two hours’ road trip from Balingian,” he said.
Moreover, Yakub added that there is a need for the relocation of SK Kenyana and SK Jebungan because of high risks due to dilapidated conditions.
He continued to voice out several necessary development projects in Balingian such as the reconstruction of a government rest house which was razed on March 6,2012; coastal erosion fort in Kampung Litong and Balingian Market; upgrading works on roads, trenches and wooden bridges; as well as the construction of ‘Anjung Selera Kuala Balingian’.
