MIRI : The Miri Town 33kV Indoor Substation is scheduled for commissioning by Aug 2018. Once completed, the substation would reinforce electricity supply to the city’s central business district, and is a critical component of the overall supply network, catering for the city’s rapid expansion and the increasing electricity demand of the people.
Sarawak Energy, in a press statement said it commenced work in good faith for the benefit of its overall customers in Miri and is concerned that if obstructions at entries to the site continue, the project will be delayed, affecting supply of electricity.
Sarawak Energy respects the rights of individuals and organisations to express their views, and appreciates that this be done in a manner that is lawful and does not jeopardise the safety of others. In this regard, Sarawak Energy has issued a temporary stop work order for the approved project in the interest of the safety and security of its employees and other workers. Unfortunately this will cause a delay in the timely completion of this substation.
Al though i t is understood that the claims are not targeted at Sarawak Energy, police reports have also been lodged for the safety and security of the employees and other workers on site. Sarawak Energy will continue to work closely with the authorities and the relevant agencies to ensure amicable and speedy solution to this matter, and appeals to the land claimants to allow construction to resume.
