BAU: The 11th Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) is intensifying its patrols to end smuggling at illegal routes.

Its commanding officer Supt Rosdi Inai said operations were carried out even though no cross-border smuggling activities were detected.

According to him, the routes, which are only passable for motorcycles, are used for cross-border access, especially in the forest area at Serikin here.

“Four of these illegal routes have been identified and we believe it is possible for cross-border crime to occur here,” he told reporters when met at one of the illegal routes near Jagui, located two kilometres from Indonesia.

He added that the route was commonly used for cross-border smuggling activities from Malaysia to Indonesia and vice versa.

Rosdi said that the number of manpower deployed to control the location would also change based on the intelligence gathered.

He pointed out that no smuggling activities had been detected during the   movement control order.
