KUCHING: The Sarawak government will ensure more sports facilities and programmes are made available in Gedong, Asajaya and Kota Samarahan to encourage healthy living to the communities residing in the areas.
Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu (GPS – Layar) said that the Ministry will ensure every district is equipped with all the necessary sports facilities.
“The state government is considering building more sports infrastructures, however, this will (also) depend on the allocations and funds,” he added.
With regards to obtaining land to build more sports facilities around Stakan, he said, a proposal must be made to the Ministry for further regulation because Stakan is at the edge of the city centre.
He said this when responding to Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim questions during the fourth day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
When replying a supplementary question, Rentap said various youth programmes have been organised such as ‘MYSED Go Rural Program’, ‘Jelajah Belia Sarawak’, ‘X-Tive Community and ‘Youth Entrepreneur Setup’ and ‘Program Pencarian Bakat Baharah’, that helped to develop more youth talents.
He added that the ‘X-Tive Programme’ will be organised in rural areas in the near future.
“ The success of our athletes in the recent Malaysian Games, Daeloniel Mcdelon and Jackson Sambai, who both won gold, benefited from the elite centres in the army camp of Muara Tuang,” he said.
He added that there are elite centres in Samarahan which contributed to football, badminton, muay thai, archery, kayak and longboat races.
