OVER one million hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land have been perimeter-measured, with over 900,000 hectares of these gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserves (Agricultural) under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said these measurements are part of the New NCR Land Measurement Programme Initiative, which has been in place since 2010.
“As of April 30, 2024, approximately 1,145,465 hectares (2,830,444 acres) have been successfully perimeter-measured, and about 908,460 hectares (2,244,805 acres) of these have been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserves (Agricultural) under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.
“In the same period, a total of 83,968 individual lots have been successfully measured, covering an area of 102,636 hectares (253,613 acres), which have already received or will soon receive land ownership documents under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech today.
Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development, assured that the Sarawak government is committed to ensuring the continuity of the programme, saying his ministry will continue to provide the necessary funds alongside the funds received from the federal government.
He also advised land claimants to meet the requirements during field measurements by clearly marking their land boundaries and refraining from disputes when making claims.
Awang Tengah said this would expedite the measurement of the individual NCR land lots.
