More than 1 mln hectares of NRC land surveyed

APPROXIMATELY 1,031,712 hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land have been measured while 794,503 hectares have been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserve (Agriculture) under Section 6 of the State Land Code as of April this year.  

Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the state government had always recognised and protected the people’s rights to their land.

He said the surveying and issuance of NCR land titles were implemented since the 1960s through the Settlement Operations in accordance with Part V of the State Land Code Chapter 81.

“To ensure that NCR land surveying is implemented more efficiently and effectively, the New Initiative NCR Land Survey Programme was implemented starting in 2010,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech today.

Awang Tengah said that since 2017, land surveying also focused on measuring of individual lots for areas gazetted under Section 6 of the State Land Code based on the application and readiness of the land claimants.

As of April this year, a total of 54,072 individual lots have been successfully surveyed involving an area of ​​66,808 hectares which have been and will be issued land title deeds under Section 18 of the State Land Code.

“To expedite the measuring of individuals lots of NCR land, land claimants must be present during the field measurement, mark the boundaries of their land clearly and avoid disputes in making claims to ensure smooth process,” he said.

He also assured that the state government was committed to ensuring the continuity of the programme.

“The state government will continue to provide the necessary funds for this in addition to the funds received from the federal government,” he said.
