KUCHING: More than 200 dogs received anti-rabies vaccination during the mass vaccination programme at the Taman Malihah Multipurpose Hall at Matang here yesterday.

Person-in-charge of the event, Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak senior assistant officer Ahtien Ijon Savo, said it was the second vaccination programme held in Taman Malihah.

“This is one of those areas with positive samples of rabies and we hope more owners will bring their dogs for vaccination,” she said when met during the programme.

Ahtien also said last year, the department organised a joint rabies awareness talk with the State Health Department for the residents in Taman Malihah and nearby areas.

“After their dogs have been vaccinated, dog owners must always keep their dogs inside their housing compounds.

“If you still see stray dogs that look sick, it is advisable to call the council for further action,” she added.

Nine officers from the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak were involved in the mass vaccination programme yesterday.
