MIRI: Over 3,000 participants from 50 contingents gathered to celebrate the Maulidur Rasul at the Miri Division level yesterday (Sept 16).
The event, which featured a parade and various performances, was officiated by Health Deputy Minister and Sibuti MP Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
He stressed the importance of unity and harmony in achieving the vision of a ‘Progressive and Prosperous Sarawak’, urging the people to follow the example of Prophet Muhammad in promoting justice, integrity, and trustworthiness within the community.
The event, held at the Miri Civic Centre compound, saw enthusiastic participation from schools, government agencies, mosques, companies, and community associations.
In addition to the parade, participants and guests were treated to poetry recitations, nasyid performances, silat demonstrations, qasidah, and a lucky draw.
Several categories of participants competed for cash prizes.
In Category B (Secondary Schools/Institutions of Higher Learning/Skill Centres), Sarawak Skills Miri took first place, followed by PGM Sarawak Campus in second and Curtin University Sarawak in third.
In Category C (Government Departments/Agencies), the Immigration Department Miri Division was crowned champion, with Miri Central Prison and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department in second and third, respectively.
Category D (Mosques/Surau) saw Masjid Nurul Jamilun Subhi from Kampung Pujut Adong emerge as the winner, while Masjid Darul Ehsan, Piasau Jaya, and Masjid An Nur, Kampung Pujut Tg. Batu secured second and third places respectively. Masjid Nurul Jamilun Subhi was also named the Best Group in this year’s parade.
In Category E (Private Firms/Companies/Financial Institutions), Petronas Islamic Welfare Body (BAKIP) PCSB-SKA took top honours, followed by Laku Management Sdn. Bhd. and Wehaya Sdn. Bhd.
The Village Committees/Associations/Clubs category was won by the Kedayan Association Miri, with PEKIDA Miri District in second place and Dangsanak Limbang Miri Welfare Association in third.
Also present were Miri Resident Jamalie Busri, Miri District Officer Siti Rohanie Yusof, and Miri City Council Deputy Mayor Councillor Ariffin Mohamad.
