KOTA SAMARAHAN: Children must be nurtured not only to do well academically from young but also to realise their full potential as individuals in the community.
State Education Department Deputy Director (School Management Sector), Dr Les Met, in this instance, pointed out that every child has potential with its own special features.
It is not only about A’s in studies but their potential and abilities in various aspects, he said.
He made these remarks at the Muara Tuang (MT) Fiesta Gempak 2023 opening ceremony at Summer shopping centre here, yesterday.
Illustrating point, he recalled the time when his group was on their way back from Bario to Miri two weeks ago.
“At that time there was a landslide, we were there for almost two hours as the vehicle we were in could not pass through after part of the area was affected by the landslide,” he said.
“Along with us there, there were high-ranking officials from the ministry, JPN, District Education Office (PPD) but everyone was stuck there.
Eventually, he said, they asked for help from a Kobelco excavator operator.
“And with such a noble heart he helped clear the road and pull the stuck cars one by one until we finally managed to pass through the area.
“What I’m trying to convey is that I’m sure the operator wasn’t all A’s in academics but he was the one who saved our trip,” he said.
Thus, he believed the MT Fiesta Gempak programme is capable of inculcating education from outside the school area together with parents and the community to teach children.
“We are confident that with the commitment of the parents and everyone in working together the children’s potential at school can be enhanced,” he stressed.
MT Fiesta Gempak 2023 is a continuation of MT Playground 1.0 which was implemented in August 2019 in conjunction with the Muara Tuang National Secondary School Carnival.
