KUCHING: This year’s Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) attracted 23,500 visitors, an increase of 1,500 from the previous year’s 22,000.

Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) said they set a target every year of hitting 24,000 visitors.

Their initiative to go green this year was also welcomed by festival-goers and the biggest success was the placement of 20 water dispensers throughout the venue to reduce single-use plastics.

Visitors brought their own tumblers during the three-day event at the Sarawak Cultural Village in Santubong near here.

The Internet connection also saw a marked improvement although it was laggy on the second day due to the massive crowds.

The foreign media was happy with the improvement as promised by STB following last year’s sluggish connection.

STB also added that there were no major incidents during the festival.
