BETONG: Three lumber mill workers were left homeless after their quarters in Batu Api Land District were engulfed by flames this morning.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 8.49 am incident.
One worker managed to evacuate to safety, while the other two were not present at the time of the fire.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firemen from Betong station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.
In addition, Betong town’s auxiliary firefighters were dispatched to the scene to assist.
Upon arrival, they found the quarters beyond salvage and the extinguishing tasks were performed using water from a nearby ditch.
The flames were brought under control at 9.30 am, followed by overhaul works to prevent any risk of reignition.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
