KUCHING: The second phase of the Sungai Bedaun Settlement Project will include the construction of a new mosque and community hall, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the state government has agreed to build the facilities for the use of residents in the Sungai Bedaun settlement and surrounding areas.

“Among the villages set to benefit are Kampung Sungai Batu, Kampung Sungai Bedaun, and Kampung Sungai Lumut, as well as visitors using Sultan Tengah Road.

“In addition, we also plan to construct a community hall in this settlement area to enable residents to engage in social and recreational activities,” he said.

He said this in a speech read by Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi during the house keys handing over ceremony for the Sungai Bedaun Settlement Project here today (Mar 3).

Abang Johari also emphasised the government’s commitment to improving living conditions through various settlement schemes, such as the Resettlement Scheme (SPS) and the Village Expansion Scheme (SPK).

He said these initiatives provide essential infrastructure like concrete ditches, tarred roads, and street lights to ensuring orderly and modern settlements.

Furthermore, he said affordable housing projects such as the Sungai Bedaun Settlement Project will be expanded to several other areas including Gedong, Asajaya, Sebuyau, Kabong, Sungai Baji in Sarikei, Kemuyang in Sibu, Jepak in Bintulu, and Kapit.

“Such housing projects reflects the GPS government’s high commitment to providing a comprehensive housing plan in line with the objectives stated in the framework of the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

“It is the Sarawak government’s concern and responsibility to advance the standard of living of the community inclusively for all Sarawakians,” he added.
