BINTULU: The Sarawak government has taken the right step by establishing a relief fund in mosques for contributions to the Palestinian people affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Datuk Seri Roland Sagah said the initiative to replace participation in the Palestinian Solidarity Week in schools in Sarawak is a mature and comprehensive action aimed at preserving harmony in the local community.
He emphasised that Sarawak is a state with a diverse population of different ethnicity and religion, and any actions taken must prioritise harmony and the well-being of all parties.
“The Sarawak government’s actions are mature and comprehensive, aimed at the harmony of all races and ethnicities that have been living in this state for so long, and the unity of the communities must be maintained indefinitely.
“Schools are places where children acquire knowledge and are shaped to succeed in their studies and future lives. Inappropriate elements should not be instilled in their minds.
“The contributions in mosques are more than sufficient as they represent a pure practice of providing assistance to those in need and afflicted by misfortune,” he said during the 40th Anniversary Dinner celebration of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Bintulu Branch recently.
Sagah said Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi had recently emphasised that Sarawak would not participate in the Palestinian Solidarity Week programme due to differences of opinion, especially in schools.
Also present were the Serembu assemblyman, Miro Simuh; DBNA Sarawak President, Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik; Political Secretaries to the Premier; Damen Rejek and Angelie Stephen Raja and Chairman of DBNA Bintulu Branch, Lennon Sanom.
