MIRI: As of January this year, 46 vehicles have been detained at the Sungai Tujoh Customs, Immigration, Quarantine Complex (CIQ), Sarawak-Brunei border for having expired entry permits.

“Most of the owners have expired entry permits and when they are about to exit Sarawak, most were unaware of the expiration date,” said Sungai Tujoh officer Supt Doehaile Bujid today during a briefing for the press on the Vehicle Monitoring System (VMS).

Also present were Adriana Mohamad Saaid, senior assistant director II of Miri Customs, and Supt Suraiti Ahmaf Shokri.

VMS was officially introduced in August 2019 after a two-month trial period from June 25 to July 31 the same year.

The purpose is to help ease the congestion at the Sungai Tujoh checkpoint.

The user friendly VMS helps smooth the movements of foreign vehicles across the border.

Sungai Tujoh CIQ is located some 14km from the city centre.

Via the system, vehicle owners are required to have their vehicle quick response (QR) code scanned when entering and exiting Malaysia via the checkpoint.
