SIMANGGANG: Most longhouses in the Sri Aman Division are aware of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Gawai Dayak festival set by the government.
Sri Aman Resident Indit Bangai said Gawai this year would once again be celebrated in the new norm due to the Covid-19 pandemic which had not yet subsided.
“The results of our monitoring of several longhouses show that most of them are adhering to the latest SOPs for the Gawai Dayak festival.
“We have reminded them many times to make sure there are no SOP violations on June 1,” he said after monitoring the situation at several longhouses today (May 29).
Indit, who is chairman of the Sri Aman Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), stressed that the government only allowed the Gawai celebration for one day with a family in one “bilik” (room) only.
“This measure is very important to curb the spread of Covid-19 among the community, especially in the rural areas,” he said.
Indit urged the people to work together to help the government break the chain of virus transmission by comply with SOPs.
At the same programme, he also handed over the latest SOP posters for the Gawai celebration to longhouse representatives to be displayed at their respective homes.
