BINTULU: A mother and her daughter died on the spot while four others were injured following a fatal two-vehicle collision along Mile 16, Jalan Bintulu – Miri on Monday.
The accident which happened around 7.45 pm involved a car carrying six individuals, and a semi-trailer parked by the roadside.
Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said that the victims were heading home after trading at a food stall at Jalan Paragon when the crash happened.
Investigations found that the car rear-ended the trailer parked by the roadside, which was partially parked at the left lane of the road.
“Due to no warning signs and limited visibility, the driver could not avoid the trailer, thus rear-ending the right side of the trailer.
“As a result, the 23-year-old mother with her four-year-old daughter (on her lap) seated at the passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said.
Meanwhile, the victim’s husband (driver) along with three backseat passengers, were rushed to Bintulu Hospital for further medical treatment.
The extent of their injuries was not known.
