Mother charged with neglecting and abusing her children

SIBU: A 45-year-old woman was on Monday (Nov 11) charged with three counts of neglecting and abusing her two children.

No plea was taken from Bibi Narcessus Dryddeen Jitai who was brought before Sibu Judiciary Department assistant registrar Romme Ahmad Zaidi who set the case for further mention on Nov 18.

On the first count, she was accused of neglecting her 14-year-old daughter by chasing her out of the house at Pahlawan Road on Aug 15 at about 6 pm.

The second charge stated that she abused her son aged 11 with a broom stick at her house on Aug 15 at about 1.30 pm.

The third charge accused her of abusing her 11 year-old son by scalding him with boiling water at the house on Oct 20 at about 5 pm.

All the three offences are listed under Section 31(1)(A) of the Child Act 2001 which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or 20 years’ jail or both.

The case was prosecuted by DPP Aiman Zarith while the accused was not represented by legal counsel.
She was refused bail and thus ordered further remanded pending the next court date.
