SERIAN: A gang of masked men tied up and robbed a woman and her son at a house in Tebedu here on Tuesday morning.

The crime took place around 3.10am when five men, armed with sharp objects, broke into the house and woke the victims up before tying them up with cables and ransacking their rooms.

After ransacking the rooms, the suspects fled the scene with the victims’ car, which was later found by the police near the Tebedu border.

The group was believed to have stolen a sum of money and jewellery.

Serian District Police chief, DSP Aswandy Anis confirmed receiving a report on the incident and said the police were still investigating the case.

When asked about the total loss, he said the victims were still checking their belongings and estimating their losses.

Meanwhile, a tailor sustained injuries on her head and body when her handbag was snatched behind a shop at Jalan Satok recently.

The incident took place at 11.00am while the 56-year-old woman was walking towards her car when a motorcyclist approached her from behind, grabbed the handbag and pulled it away.

The suspect’s action caused the unsuspecting woman to fall to the ground and sustained head and bodily injuries.

A police report on the incident was lodged. The victim reported losing a mobile phone, personal documents and RM350.
