KUCHING: Mothers have been urged to remind family members and those around them on the importance of complying with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said mothers played an important role in the family unit and “if we can comply with SOPs, I believe we can reduce the number of Covid-19 cases”.
She was speaking at a talk organised by the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) titled The Important Role of Mothers in Family Institutions streamed live on Facebook on Tuesday (May 11).
Fatimah also reminded mothers or women who would be especially busy preparing food or baking cakes for the coming festivals to be alert to avoid any fire incidents.
“A woman, besides being a mother, also plays an important role in contributing to the wellbeing of the community.
“For instance, when a mother plays her role well in the family institution, it will create a stable and healthy environment in the family, which is also important for a child’s wellbeing.
“As such, when the family is stable, this will translate into creating a stable community.”
Fatimah said this was one of the areas that her ministry focused on — making sure that the family institution was strong and stable as it would contribute to the social wellbeing in the community.
