SIBU: The vibrantly exciting township of Sibu Jaya was fast becoming a verdant playground for community-oriented activities said Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

The Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government said that with its award-winning master plan that places a lot of emphasis on the people’s well-being, Sibu Jaya is seen increasingly as the must-visit place for community events and sports and recreation.

Tiang emphasised that all parties, from the local council to the developer and the residents and non-governmental organisations must continue working together for this latest development in Sibu Jaya to take root and succeed.

“There is nothing to stop Sibu Jaya from becoming ‘the centre of attraction’ for community-oriented events. As it is, residents from upriver are making a beeline for Sibu Jaya on weekends for food and shopping.

“With more activities, even residents from downtown Sibu itself would also be drawn to the township,” he said when receiving a courtesy call from the organising chairman and secretary of the forthcoming Sibu Jaya Motocross Challenge.

Tiang also said that with the official opening of the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on July 1, Sibu Jaya has quickly seen the sports centre playing host to more than 30 sporting events in a brief period of two months.

“I do believe that apart from sports, other community-oriented events like the Sibu Jaya Carnival will also draw people to Sibu Jaya. As such, all parties must work together to create even more events.

“Looking at the Sibu Jaya masterplan, you can see that there will be a green lung with water bodies, in the centre of Sibu Jaya.

“The completion of this massive tract of land will give rise to even more venues for various activities. From RC boats to kite flying and from motocross to 4×4 off-road challenge, the potential for Sibu Jaya as the hub of such interesting activities is limitless,” he said.
“The developer Amcorp Sibu Jaya has been playing an extremely proactive in organising activities and supporting NGOs activities. This forthcoming motocross is just another example and I am enthusiastic there will be more,” he said.

The Pelawan assemblyman also stressed that many other parties such as the non-governmental organisation (NGOs) and especially the people of Sibu Jaya have been very proactive.

All these augured well for the township to catapult itself to the front as the centre for people-oriented activities.

“I hope all parties will realise they must be on the same page. It would not succeed if only one party were to do all the heavy lifting, while the other parties sit back and wait for things to happen,” he emphasised.

Touching on the overall Sibu Jaya masterplan, Tiang said it was common knowledge the plan was conceived by Abang Johari when he was leading the Ministry of Housing.

“We can all see the success of Sibu Jaya as a township. This is due to the foresight of the Premier,” he said, adding it was now up to the relevant parties to fully implement Abang Johari’s vision and bring it to total fruition.

The two-day event will be flagged off by Dudong assemblyman, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing on September 3 at 10am while Tiang would officiate at the closing ceremony on September 4 at 5 pm.
