MIRI: A motorcyclist died while a passenger was critically injured in a road accident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle and a motorcycle at Jalan Batu Niah on Monday night.
According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the incident occured around 9.30pm and the victim was identified as Seredin Ansi, 38.
The accident occured when the motorcyle travelling from Simpang Ngu to Pekan Niah, tried to overtake the four-wheel drive vehicle in front.
As a result, the motorcycle hit the front right corner of the vehicle, causing the two victims to be thrown on the road.
The motorcyclist suffered critical injuries and his left leg was almost broken while a passenger in the four-wheel drive vehicle Ambu Kiding, 30, also suffered critical injuries. Driver of the vehicle Foong Sze Kiet, 28, was unharmed in the accident.
Both victims were sent to Miri Hospital for further treatments. The motorcyclist died while receiving treatment.
The motorcyclist’s body was sent to the hospital’s morgue for further actions, and the vehicles involved were handed over for inspection by Puspakom Miri.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
