MIRI:  A 39-year-old motorist died after his car collided head-on with a lorry near Suai Bridge on the Pan Borneo Miri-Bintulu Road on Thursday (July 30).

Firemen were called to the scene near Rumah Robert, a longhouse, at 4.34pm after the collision to help extricate the motorist who was trapped in his car.

The rescue operation began at 5.36pm and ended at 6.45pm, said Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.

The motorist, who was alone in the car,was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Suai Health Clinic.

His body was handed over to the police for further action.

The lorry driver, 32, was not injured in the accident.

According to Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the motorist was travelling from Bintulu to Niah.

He was believed to have lost control of his car before it veered off into the opposite lane and collided with the lorry.

The crash occurred around 3.30pm.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
