MIRI: A 22 year-old motorist had a lucky escape after his car burst into flames at Jalan Bakam in the wee hours today.
A team of firemen from Miri central was despatched to the scene after receiving a report at 2.38 am.
The car was 80 per cent destroyed in the incident, said Zone 6 Fire and Rescue acting chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee.
Prior to the incident, the man was on his way back to his home at Jalan Bakam from the city centre, when he spotted plumes of smoke coming out from the car’s compartment.
“He managed to stop at the road side and jumped out of the car,” said Ahmad Nizam.
Firemen managed to douse the flames from the blazing car.
