SIBU: The GP Sibujaya Extreme Motocross Championship 2024, a key event of Sibujaya Bike Week 2024, has the potential to become a major tourism draw.
Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai likened its potential impact to that of Formula 1 and MotoGP races in Sepang.
“I believe this event can attract motocross enthusiasts from beyond Sarawak and even other countries,” he said at the event’s opening ceremony on Friday night.
The championship features riders from various countries including Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, the Philippines, and Peninsular Malaysia, promising a thrilling competition.
Sibu Jaya Bike Week 2024 offers a diverse range of activities, from live entertainment to the motocross championship.
Sempurai praised the organisers, Amcorp Sibu Jaya Sdn Bhd and the GP Sibujaya Extreme Motorsport Association, for their efforts in making the event a success.
Also present were SRDC secretary Ng Siang Wei, GP Sibujaya Extreme Motorsport Association chairman Sii How Ping, Malaysian Motorsports Association representative Roslan Kamaruddin, and Amcorp Sibujaya’s general manager James Ho.
