SIBU: The collaboration between University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) and Asian-China Education and Culture (ACEC) will help enhance the university’s programmes, especially with China, says Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.

The UTS vice-chancellor said ACEC would provide an important and strategic platform for UTS to explore new opportunities in education, culture, research, student mobility, and staff exchanges.

“In addition, we would also like to develop cooperation in human capital development specific to the needs of Sarawak, especially in digital technology, green energy, construction engineering, business technology, and digital economy.

“In this respect, we hope to establish industrial and research collaboration with industry players and corporations from China that have been in operation here in Sarawak, especially those in Samalaju Industrial Park and also those involved in infrastructure (bridges) and hydro projects.”

Prof Khairuddin said this during the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between UTS and ACEC, witnessed by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, on Monday (Oct 31).

“I believe that the opportunities for stronger ties between UTS and universities in China are available and can be implemented through this MoU.

“I look forward to working together with ACEC and I wish the best and brighter future for both countries, especially for Sarawak,” he added.

Meanwhile, ACEC executive regional director Yang Chengcheng noted that the MoU set a significant milestone for a closer collaboration on industry-academia-research to improve regional development.

“We hope that UTS lecturers and students will join us to study and exchange, so as to promote cooperation between Malaysia and China to cultivate more high-quality talent under the Belt and Road Initiative and promote common progress and development in the region.”
