KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and Worldview Climate Solutions (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on Wednesday marking the official launch of a landmark blue carbon initiative in the Tanjung Manis area.

This project, designed to restore and conserve 11,000 hectares of mangrove forests, signifies a major step in Sarawak’s commitment to environmental sustainability and economic growth through foreign direct investment.

The project aims to establish and develop the blue carbon ecosystem, capturing and marketing carbon from restored mangroves while supporting local biodiversity and eco-tourism.

This partnership follows a series of feasibility studies conducted since 2023, confirming Tanjung Manis’s suitability as a sustainable blue carbon site.

“This initiative reflects STIDC’s dedication to conserving our natural resources for future generations while fostering economic development in the region,” said Zainal Abidin Abdullah, general manager of STIDC.

“With the backing of the Sarawak government and our partners, we are confident this project will serve as a cornerstone for sustainable growth in the Tanjung Manis Economic Growth Area,” he stressed.
