KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) to advance rail transport education and research.

The MoU was signed in a ceremony at the UTHM Campus in Batu Pahat, Johor yesterday.

According to a statement released by Sarawak Metro, this initiative represents a significant milestone for Sarawak Metro’s Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) programme aimed to establish a centre of excellence in advancing green public transport in Sarawak.

“The initiative is part of the company’s commitment towards nurturing skilled manpower resources, and driving innovation and excellence in the transportation sector.

“By integrating academic knowledge with the practical industry experiences, we aim to equip the future professionals in Sarawak with the skills necessary to contribute to the evolving transport sector,” said chief executive officer of Sarawak Metro, Mazli Mustaffa at UTHM’S Faculty of Engineering Technology’s inaugural Industry Appreciation Ceremony.

The partnership between Sarawak Metro and UTHM seeks to provide staff and students access to industrial expertise, equipment and instruments while fostering the exchange of technical know-how, and development of collaborative research in transportation and engineering technology.

Additionally, this collaboration will focus on strategic human resource development initiatives to create employment opportunities and enhance local expertise and capacity in the transportation sector, especially in the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) hydrogen vehicles.
