MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) and Asian Tourism International (ATI) College of Kota Kinabalu have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration.
The MoU was signed following a visit by a delegation from ATI College, led by its executive chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Khen Thau, to Curtin Malaysia on January 18. The visit laid the groundwork for future academic collaboration between the two institutions.
The key terms of the MoU include the development of a program agreement to offer Curtin’s Masters of International Business (MIB) program at ATI College, targeting international students from China.
Additionally, ATI College may be designated as a Curtin Masters in Business Learning Centre, pending approval from the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).
Furthermore, a pathway will be established to facilitate the transition from ATI College’s diploma courses to Curtin degree courses offered at Curtin Malaysia.
The MoU was signed by Pro Vice-Chancellor, President, Chief Executive Professor Simon Leunig and Chief Executive Officer Izwan Ariff Ya’akob, representing Curtin Malaysia and ATI College, respectively.
Professor Leunig’s deputy, Professor Vincent Lee Chieng Chen, and Cui Yang Meng, chairman of Beijing Open Future Education Technology Group (ATI College’s partner in China), served as witnesses.
During the signing ceremony on February 26, Professor Leunig expressed his delight at the partnership with ATI College and emphasized the potential for collaboration with similar institutions to advance higher education in Borneo.
He also highlighted Curtin Malaysia’s status as the highest-ranked foreign university in Borneo and its commitment to research-intensive education that meets the needs of local and international government and industry.
Datuk Seri Panglima Wong expressed his enthusiasm for establishing a strong relationship with Curtin Malaysia.
He emphasized the significance of launching the Master of International Business programME at ATI College, which he believes will benefit the academic community in Sabah and Sarawak and provide valuable opportunities for Chinese students.
He also expressed his anticipation for future initiatives with Curtin Malaysia, aiming to attract hundreds, if not thousands, of Chinese students to ATI College.
