KUCHING: Fifty mountain bikers pushed themselves to the limit at Masja Mountain Bike (MTB) Challenge 2019 in Petra Jaya here, yesterday.
The 2-km trail took the cyclists deep into the woods behind Baitul Makmur’s Building where a steep and rocky path awaited them.
Organised by Sarawak Cyclist Association and flagged off at 8am, the challenge was held at the new trail, the Masja MTB trail.
The challenge was divided into four categories namely men’s aged below 18, men’s veteran aged 40 and above, women’s open and men’s open.
According to Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA) secretary Ahmad Jumry Kassim, the challenge was supported by Kuching City North Council (DBKU).
The third place winner in the women’s open category, Nur Faizatul Yuyue Ahmad Joyo, when met by New Sarawak Tribune described the trail as “moderate for both amateur and professional cyclists”.
Faizatul, 23, hoped to see more girls taking up mountain biking, saying it is good exercise and provides a challenge for those seeking thrills that only mountain biking can give.
