KUCHING: The Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition (APGH) 2024 saw the exchange of eight collaborations and Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) between the respective parties witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
First off, the ceremony saw the document exchange made between Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and H2Energy Sdn Bhd.
The document entails collaboration on the development of a green hydrogen system in Kampung Assum, Sarawak, through the integration and optimisation of microhydro, solar, and green hydrogen energy, marking a significant step toward a sustainable, circular economy and low-carbon regions.
This collaborative initiative between The Institute of Sustainable and Renewable Energy (ISuRE), UNIMAS and H2Energy Sdn Bhd leverages the area’s waterfall for consistent microhydro power, essential for electrolysis to produce green hydrogen.
Meanwhile, OCBC Bank Malaysia Berhad also exchanged documents with InvestSarawak highlighting OCBC’s commitment to support the overall economic development of Sarawak through a funding allocation of up to RM5 billion.
“This substantial funding allocation is to facilitate infrastructure development, renewable energy and technological advancement that will focus on promoting sustainability and advancing strategic initiatives of Sarawak,” its spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd (SEDCE) exchanged documents with ICE Petroleum to formalise their collaboration on the hydrogen and technological components of The Rembus Project.
The fourth collaboration was between SEDCE and ACWA Power for their joint development and feasibility study of Large-Scale Green Hydrogen Production Utilising Captive New Renewable Energies.
The parties will embark on the development of a 2- 4GW Renewable Energy power plant, either a large-scale solar farm (ground or floating) and/or a biomass plant and/or a cascading hydro system and/or wind and/or wave energy system in Sarawak, equipped with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), feeding into an Integrated Green Hydrogen facility, via an Ammonia Synthesis plant and facility producing export-grade Green Ammonia.
Planet QEOS, KIS Group Malaysia, and Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA) also exchanged documents to collaborate in advancing renewable energy solutions in Sarawak.
Planet QEOS will leverage its expertise in Hydrogen production, while KIS will contribute its knowledge in biogas and biomethane production technology.
SALCRA, with its existing biogas production facilities and oil palm mills, will supply the necessary feedstock. The partnership aims to produce sustainable and low-cost Hydrogen through the Steam Biomethane Reforming Process, optimising waste from palm oil plantations.
This initiative, once successful, will serve as a benchmark for utilising waste from Sarawak’s extensive palm oil plantations for biohydrogen production.
The ceremony also saw the partnership between Brooke Holdings Sdn Bhd and SLB (previously known as Schlumberger).
This MoU is exchanged for the technical and technology cooperation in the full life cycle of the Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) hub development in the state of Sarawak.
Other than that, SEDCE also exchanged documents of Non-binding letter of intent with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia to provide expertise and funding where commercially possible for new/sustainable energy projects under SEDC.
The final document exchange was between SEDCE and Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari) where they have agreed to form and be the shareholders in a new joint venture company that will be the single vehicle to undertake the development, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance and control of the H2 Hub.
“The H2 Hub is a facility where all hydrogen production projects are standardised and optimised and shall be the sole supplier of green hydrogen for any downstream facilities,” a spokesperson explained.
