KUCHING: The inaugural Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen 2024 conference has resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth over RM6 billion.
In stating his Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni hailed the conference a success.
It attracted 611 delegates, 72 distinguished speakers and 96 participating companies from 19 nations.
“The conference welcomed 3,233 trade visitors and covered an exhibition floorspace of 2,400 square meters.
“This resounding success has set the stage for Sarawak to continue its green hydrogen journey.
“We aim not only to achieve our objectives as outlined in our Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 but also to position Sarawak as the hub and focal point for green energy initiatives in the region.” he said during the closing of APGH at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today (June 12).
Dr Hazland highlighted key takeaways from the three-day conference, which include Sarawak’s potential for large-scale green hydrogen projects, supported by its renewable energy resources, strategic location, government backing, and access to raw materials.
He said with this competitive edge, Sarawak is well-placed to become a leading green hydrogen exporter.
“The Sarawak government understands the importance of further research and development and has announced the establishment of the Centre of Excellence for Clean Energy to further its ambitions to become a global leader in this sector,” he added.
Sarawak’s achievements, he said, include being named the 11th cleanest city in the world, establishing the first hydrogen refuelling station in 2019, and initiating its transition to clean energy in the 1980s.
“This confirms Sarawak’s status as a true trailblazer in sustainability,” he said.
Also present at the conference were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Chairman of Borneo Business Connect and APGH organiser Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, Ambassador of Finland Sami Leino, Ambassador of Sweden, Ambassador of Norway Morten Paulsen, Ambassador of the United States of America Edgard D. Kagan, and Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Malcom Mussen Lamoh.
