KUCHING: The opposition parties in the state have been advised to move on and not resort to lies and slandering the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as the people have already shown their strong support to the coalition in the just concluded 12th state election.

GPS secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, in an exclusive interview with the New Sarawak Tribune yesterday, was commenting on the allegations by Aspirasi’s president Lina Soo on the MA63 which she claimed was merely a smokescreen by the GPS to garner support from the people.

itted there were some issues, policies and information that were still not disclosed to the public as the GPS did not want to jeopardise the ongoing negotiations and discussion with the Federal government.

“I think it is very unfair for Lina Soo to keep on attacking the GPS that we are not consistent with our efforts in fighting for Sarawak’s rights in the MA63.

“Her opinions and her always having a go in attacking GPS are for her own political mileage. She just doesn’t want to say that GPS efforts have already indeed born fruits.

“Much of the agreements in the MA63 are already eroded and this is where the GPS is making sure that the Federal government is made aware that there is inequality and ineffective implementation of development in Sarawak.

“GPS wants the Federal government to respect Sarawak and to respect the rights of Sarawak and it’s people and giving Sarawak an equal standing as Malaya and Sabah,” he added brushing aside the allegations made by Soo as reported in the Dayak Daily recently.

“There has been an ineffective distribution and implementation of development projects and that is why there has been an ‘erosion’ of the MA63.

“We want the federal government to reset some policies and to go back to the agreed agreement and policies in the MA63.

“So for Lina Soo to say it’s just a smokescreen, it’s unfair. I think for her and her party having a go and attacking GPS is the only thing for them to win support.”

Nanta added that GPS had truly achieved success in upholding the rights of Sarawakians and ensuring that Sarawak would not go through another 53  years of not being equal to Semenanjung Malaysia.

“So our efforts in fighting for the rights of the people are not useless as what Lina Soo has alleged. The election is over and the people have already decided.

“I think the victory by GPS is very clear that the coalition is not just about fighting for the rights of the people in the MA63 but it has also been standing up for all of Sarawak’s interests. The chief minister has been very fair in terms of distribution and implementation of development to the rural areas.

“To the opposition, let’s just move on. The election is over and GPS has been decided by the people to be the government for the next five years

“Of course, carry on with your duty in providing the check and balance but please do not resort to lies and slander,” Nanta added.
