DALAT: Digitising the Grassroots Community Programme (Program Mendigitalisasi Komuniti Akar Umbi) is in line with the state’s agenda to create a smart society supported by digital technology, knowledge, and innovation.

The programme, organised by the Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) and the Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak in collaboration with the Dalat District Office, involved 46 participants from the Dalat and Oya districts gathered here yesterday (May 28).

Dalat District Officer Hamdan Katang said the programme is seen as a way to make the community here knowledgeable and digitally savvy while also contributing to the development of Dalat.

He said organising more similar programmes in the district will enable digital initiatives to be easily implemented, turning the area into a well-known tourist destination for outsiders.

“I also want the participation of the youth in promoting Dalat internationally through social media, showcasing the rich products such as sago and the attractive potential of the surrounding areas,” he said in nis speech.

On the same note, Sibu Library regional manager Fairul Azli Banchit urged the Dalat community, especially the Ketua Masyarakat and Ketua Kaum (KMKK), to play a role in guiding all segments of society under its care.

This  is to ensure that rural communities, especially Dalat and Oya, do not lag behind and can move together with others towards achieving the digital economic goals for the state, he said.

“The local community must make wise use of facilities such as the Digital Community Centre (DCC) provided by the government for for activities related to the digital field,” he added.

The one-day programme also featured the Sarawak Civil Service Digitalisation Unit (SCSDU), e-commerce entrepreneurs, and social media influencers who introduced the functions of the DCC to the Sarawak community.

The facility helps accelerate the digitalisation process by providing opportunities for individuals to utilise the digital facilities available.

The programme will once again engage the residents of Dalat  next month.
