SIBU: The Nangka Service Centre and Yayasan Farley launched a ‘Book Drive’ campaign to collect 11,000 English books.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the books will be distributed and priority would be given to those in rural areas.

“These books will be distributed mainly to longhouses in villages and schools in rural areas. That’s our aim of the book drive,” Dr Annuar told reporters during the launching ceremony of the book drive, here today (Jan 20).

“The Farley Foundation donated 1,000 books last year, now we want to collect 11,000 books, which means we still need another 10,000 books. We will identify more locations to place this book drive such as Wisma Sanyan and various shopping malls, where people can get easy access to the books,” he said.

Dr Annuar also commended Yayasan Farley on its willingness to work with the Nangka Service Centre to cultivate a reading habit among the children.

“On behalf of the service centre, I would like to thank Yayasan Farley for this meaningful initiative. This effort is to foster the practice of reading from a young age. This is a campaign to enhance the command of English among the children,” he said.

Also present was Yayasan Farley president, Eijing Lau.
