THE Sarawak Innovation Index (SARii) modelled on the Global Innovation Index (GII) will be evidence-based and importantly audited by international entities such as the World Bank and United Nations.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said this to ensure global recognition and credibility of innovation ecosystem in Sarawak.
“While Malaysia currently ranks 33rd in global innovation, here is a need to develop a distinct analysis of Sarawak’s specific innovation ecosystem.
“That being said, I have instructed my ministry to further explore on developing SARii, with the aim to launch it next year,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech today.
Additionally, Sagah stated that Sarawakian students has achieved outstanding success in many robotic competition, at both national and international levels.
“At the national level competition, which was held at the Multimedia University in Cyberjaya, teams from SMK Chung Hua Miri and IPG Kampus Sarawak has won gold, silver and bronze in various categories.
Building on their national success, Sarawak teams continue to
excel at the international competitions. The achievements are as follows:
- 2024 World Robot Olympiad, Italy – SMK Chung Hua Miri and IPG Kampus Sarawak emerged as world champion and 1st runner-up in their respective categories. These teams are representing Malaysia at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Final in Türkiye end of this month;
- Technovation Girls World Summit 2024, US – Agape team, consisting of students from Sarikei won the Technology Award;
- Air Land Conquest 2024 Robomaster Challenge, Singapore – Woodlands International School won third place in the Open Category; and
- International Tech Summit, Beijing, China – SJK Chung Hua No. 6 won two golds, one silver, two outstanding awards, and the best business plan award.
