SAMARAHAN: The Chinese community plays significant roles in helping to develop the state, especially in the economic sector, said Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang.
She said this when receiving a visit from a delegation of Chinese community leaders at her office here which was shared by her Parliamentary Service Centre’s Facebook page on Wednesday (Jan 26).
“We consider the Chinese community here as our siblings in a harmonious society and we need their active involvement to jointly develop Kota Samarahan in various aspects.
“In Sarawak, we do not see differences in race and beliefs as an obstacle in working together, because we prioritise our identity as Sarawakians,” said Rubiah.
During the meeting, they discussed several matters including development projects in the area and activities involving the Chinese community, especially leading up to the Chinese New Year celebration next week.
Among those present during the visit were Asajaya District pemanca Liew Shark Shen and Chinese community representatives from various areas – kapitan Sim Mong Chai (Muara Tuang), penghulu Chai Hen Fui (Stakan), kapitan Then Nyong Chien (Asajaya), and kapitan Liew Piang Kun (29th Mile, Serian).
