MIRI: MP Chiew Choon Man has come out in support of the Prime Minister’s reminder to respect the existence of Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools in the country.
He said this schooling system has been a long-standing educational heritage on Malaysia.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had recently warned against attempts by certain political groups to use these institutions to stoke racial tensions and criticise the government.
Stating that such actions are unacceptable and counterproductive to national unity he stressed the importance of maintaining respect for vernacular schools.
In a statement Chiew echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments, underscoring the significance of Sarawak’s rich cultural and religious diversity.
“As a Sarawakian, I take great pride in our state’s vibrant diversity. We value respect for differences, and I fully support the Prime Minister’s stand on this critical issue, despite political pressure from factions who try to politicise education and exploit racial and religious sentiments,” he said.
Chiew expressed deep appreciation for the Prime Minister’s unwavering commitment to upholding respect for differences, which he believes is essential for national unity and progress.
“By upholding the values of mutual respect and appreciation for diversity, we can build a more harmonious and prosperous Malaysia for all,” said Chiew.
He urged all Sarawakians to stand united behind the Prime Minister’s vision, sending a strong message to all politicians that education should never be politicised.
