KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii hopes that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government can produce its one-year report card on what has been done thus far.

“It is important for the PN government to explain to the people the progress made in terms of restoring the rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as well as the development and socio-economic advancement of the two Borneo states,” Yii said in a Facebook post on Monday (Mar 1).

Last Sunday, Muhyiddin, in an interview in conjunction with his first anniversary as the prime minister, said he would ensure that Sabah and Sarawak be given fair treatment in various aspects in line with the creation of the Sabah and Sarawak Affairs portfolio in the PN government last year.

Yii pointed out that based on public records, the Special Council on MA63 formed under the PN government had only met once on Dec 2 last year and there was no news of a follow-up meeting until now.

“In that meeting itself, what was agreed upon was the formation of another three committees that would handle various matters important to Sabah and Sarawak. So, it is of utmost importance that each of these committees and the ministry as a whole explain to the public what has been done for the past year,” he said.

Yii said that this was an issue of public interest as the people would want to monitor and know the report card of this ministry on long-standing issues that had deprived Sabah and Sarawak of what was rightfully theirs.

“All these concern not just the rights of Sabah and Sarawak, but also has an important effect on the understanding of our current federation,” said Yii.
