GEDONG: Concerned with the misfortune that befell the victims of the fire at Ladang Tiasa Mesra, Kepayang, Member of Parliament for Batang Sadong, Rodiyah Sapiee came forward and handed over a donation to them on Friday.
A total of 10 families of workers’ house fire victims at Ladang Tiasa Mesra, Kepayang, Gedong have received donations in the form of cash and food baskets from the Sarawak State Development Office.
The donation was presented by Rodiyah and witnessed by Simunjan assemblyman, Awla Dris.
“I would like to express my sadness when I received the news before Christmas where a block of flats where 10 workers lived suffered 100 per cent damage in the fire.
“However, we are thankful that everything is safe despite the many losses suffered by the fire victims.
“We are also grateful to the farm for acting immediately by providing assistance to the fire victims and providing other facilities,” he said in a speech at the Donation Presentation Ceremony for the Workers’ House Fire Victims at Block H of Ladang Tiasa Mesra on Friday.
At the same time, Rodiyah also hopes that similar incidents do not happen again and hopes that the farm will take more safety measures to prevent fires.
Earlier, Rodiyah and Awla also paid visit to the fire site themselves happened last December 22 at 5 pm when all the workers were still at their respective workplaces.
It is understood that the farm will rebuild the houses of the workers involved in the fire.
Also present were Sarawak State Development Director Jasni Jubli, Chief Assistant Director of the People’s Welfare Section Hajiawati Tambi, Gedong District Officer Abdul Khalid Manap and Senior Estate Manager Velen Narayanasamy.
