KUCHING: It is wrong to say that the Federal government does not prioritise education in Sarawak, said Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching Dr Kelvin Yii.
He said this in response to a recent statement made by Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong on claims that Sarawak is unable to connect 113 primary schools to the main electric grid, with the reason behind it being its federal counterpart has yet to give consent.
He went on further to elaborate that he had written to the Education Ministry in June on the matter and claimed that the ministry had not responded to him yet. “I was made aware of the correspondence between both ministries on the subject matter since the end of October.
“The Federal Ministry responded on Oct 24 to request on details of the proposal by the State government of which he (Manyin) replied on Oct 31.
“ I was informed that the Education Ministry is reviewing the matter holistically, and doing the necessary ground studies including the proposal by the State government and is responding on the matter soon,” he said.
