KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen has collaborated with Masjid Wan Alwi in Tabuan Jaya to distribute “Bakul Raya” (festive baskets) to 110 needy families and individuals.

These baskets, filled with snacks, packet drinks, cordial drinks and biscuits are aimed at brightening the Aidilfitri celebrations for the recipients.

The initiative focuses on supporting orphans, children from underprivileged backgrounds, single mothers, the elderly, persons with disabilities (PWD), and those suffering from chronic diseases and cancer.

“During this festive season, it’s crucial to remember the less fortunate among us and extend the joy of the season to them,” said Dr. Yii in a statement today (Apr 9).

Yii also addressed the current social climate, noting the persistence of divisive actions and rhetoric that stoke racial and religious tensions, citing recent controversies involving KK Mart and Vern shoes. Despite these challenges, he stressed the importance of unity and compassion over division.

“In times when division is propagated, we choose unity. We aim to build bridges of understanding rather than walls of separation,” he added.
