MIRI: Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni intends to open a youth centre dedicated e-sports to capitalise on the fastest-growing sport in the world.

According to him, the sport has drawn huge audiences, thus having a dedicated centre would be a positive development both for the sport and the youths who love it.

“I plan to have an e-sport centre built in Bekenu so that youths have a place to play games such as Mobile Legend, PUBG, Fifa19, which today is binding youths in a big way,” he said when met recently.

He said Bekenu made a perfect location as it is accessible to both urban and rural youths.

“My idea is to get rural youths to be exposed to this modern sport as well,” he said.

He added even though e-sport has yet to be promoted in a big way by the government, such as a government-sponsored prestigious competition, he foresees the trend is in that direction.

“Today, there are limitations to organising high-level programmes, but once the infrastructure is in place, there is nothing to stop us from going into e-sport in a big way,” he said.
