ASAJAYA: A total of 490 people in Asajaya district comprising hardcore poor individuals, members of Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) and representatives of the Asajaya Community Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) received Raya aid at Masjid An-Najah here on Sunday (April 17).

The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Bubur Lambuk Roadshow organised by the Saberkas Prihatin Asajaya branch.

Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Rubiah Wang said Ramadhan this time was more interesting following a two-year lap.

“For two years we have not had a physical meet-up due to COVID-19. Despite the two-year hiatus, various assistance had been channelled where ties between leaders and the people had strengthened especially with federal and state leaders.

“Of course, after a joyful fasting period, this year’s Eid celebration will be lively; not only at the family and community levels, but also at the state level year.

“Many programmes and activities were hosted by agencies and government bodies, thus making the fasting season this time more interesting,” she said during the programme.

Various assistance, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, had been implemented to help the country regain its development, Rubiah said.

Meanwhile, she urged recipients to make use of the aid wisely, especially for the coming Aidilfitri celebration.

“Give priority to each other’s family, use the aid for more important matters, especially for children’s education,” she said.

Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who was among those present, believed that the programme would bring the youths closer and encourage them to be active in local community programmes.

Contributions were also given by Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-Isteri (SABATI), especially for special citizens from PDK and asnaf (hardcore poor) groups in the Asajaya district.
