MIRI: In a move to enhance educational outcomes among local youth, Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man distributed reading glasses to 14 students from Miri Vocational College recently.
This initiative aims to improve their focus and academic performance by addressing visual impairments that could hinder learning.
The assistance came after feedback and requests from the school, underscoring Chiew’s dedication to uplifting the educational standards in the region.
Speaking about the initiative, he emphasised that investments in education are critical to shaping a brighter future for Miri’s younger generation.
During his visit, he also reviewed the ongoing Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) at Miri Vocational College.
The engagement provided a platform for discussions with educators on strategies to enhance the school’s infrastructure and create better learning opportunities for students.
As part of his broader commitment to the school, Chiew allocated RM36,000 this year for infrastructure improvements.
These funds are earmarked to upgrade the roof outside the school fence, offering students a sheltered area while waiting for transportation.
“This upgrade will ensure students are protected from rain, providing them with a safer and more comfortable environment,” Chiew stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the needs of students and educational institutions here, pledging to continue supporting initiatives that create a more conducive and equitable learning environment.
“Empowering education is key to unlocking the potential of our younger generation. By easing the burden on students and parents, we can motivate students to strive for academic excellence and secure a brighter future,” Chiew concluded.
