BINTULU: Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has highlighted the significance of nurturing students’ sportsmanship and critical thinking abilities.

The Bintulu MP was represented by special officer Steven Kong Kai Seng at the launch of the Bintulu District Primary Schools Sports Council Athletics Championship here.

“The competition aims to promote quality education and a positive learning environment, encourages children’s participation in extracurricular activities, fostering self-confidence, creativity and innovation,” he said.

Tiong stressed the role of such events in shaping a strong national identity and producing brilliant students who excel both academically and athletically.

He encouraged parents to support their children’s involvement in sports, recognising its potential to complement and enhance academic excellence.

During the championship, Tiong also announced an allocation of RM30,000 to the Bintulu District Primary Schools Sports Council.

With a total of 1,027 athletes representing 28 primary schools in Bintulu District, the four-day tournament has been underway since last Saturday and will conclude on Wednesday (Aug 2).
