SELANGAU: The Iban youth urged to embrace customs and culture amidst modernisation.
According to Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, it is crucial to preserve and instill customs like the ‘Mangkong Tiang’ ceremony among the youth.
“Even though they are increasingly exposed to technological advancements like social media, we must ensure that our customs and culture remain ingrained in today’s youth.
“If we fail to protect our customs, they may fade away. Preserving our heritage is our way of upholding our identity and earning respect,” he said.
Nanta said this when officiating at the WaiFM Datai Nemuai Programme and the Mangkong Tiang Rumah Simond anak Boom Programme in Ulu Dijih, Selangau last Sunday.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of unity among diverse communities in developing the state’s infrastructure and economy, considering global uncertainties.
“Hence, it is imperative for us to be ‘Segulai Sejalai’—leaving behind anything that hinders our unity,” he reminded.
