KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii paid a visit to a single mother in his constituency to understand the issue faced by one of his constituents.
In a Facebook post, Dr Yii said the single mother from Kampung Kudei Dungun had sought help from the parliamentarian as the latter is unable to go out to work to attend to her six months’ old baby.
“The father of the children has not taken responsibility over the children nor helped with their expenses.
“They thus survive on some small allowance by her elderly mother, who still needs to do some odd cleaning jobs to put some food on table for them,” he said in a statement yesterday.
According to Dr Yii, the visit was also to understand the issues and find ways to better help the family.
“We will be helping them apply for the necessary welfare assistance and help through the process,” he added.
In another development, the Bandar Kuching Service Centre also distributed 150 packets of vegetarian food in Jalan Carpenter, Padungan in collaboration with MuZi Kantin.
