KUCHING: Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni welcomes the government’s recent announcement in capping the retail price of the Covid-19 Antigen self-test kit at RM19.90 and the wholesale price at RM16.00.
He justified the move as a measure to reduce the burden on consumers who are being charged excessively during the pandemic.
“The government needs to enforce the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act to those (sellers) who charge too much for the kit and they (government) should also monitor if there is a dumping of fake test kits,” he said.
He mentioned that individuals with symptoms would be able to perform self-examination more quickly as a result of the kit’s price reduction.
Disclosing his first experience using the self-test kit in parliament last month, he hoped that the state government would also explore several possibilities to obtain self-test kits for public distribution under the Sarawakku Sayang special assistance.
“If the price reduction is cheaper, I recommend that the Covid-19 Antigen test kit be introduced in schools if the school reopens later,” he said.
