KOTA SAMARAHAN: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) has revoked the 18 family entertainment permits it issued in Kota Samarahan.
MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the permits had been abused for illegal gambling which was the source of many social ills and problems.
He said MPKS was also working closely with the police to prevent drug abuse and drug peddling, as well as house break-in and other crimes in Samarahan.
“MPKS wants Samarahan to be a nice and safe place to live and study in,” said Minos, adding that the council was also working on eliminating plastic and polystyrene use.
“It is our duty to see that the environment is protected and the people’s health is safeguarded. We cannot compromise or take chances on this matter,” said Minos.
On indiscriminate rubbish dumping, Minos said MPKS was considering the amount of fine to impose on the culprits, and disclosed that the council was also embarking on greening and landscaping the town.
“We will do it stage by stage, as and when we have the funds and approval. We are working with our Local Government and Housing ministry and federal ministry on the setting up of a truly modern waste management plant,” he said.
