KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is taking all steps to ensure it is corruption-free and is efficient in serving the people of Samarahan.

Towards this end, it has invited the state Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) to give a special briefing today on the evils of corruption and also how corruption can be detected and eradicated.

“Corruption almost killed our nation and we do not want that to happen, not again. It is so bad and embarrassing.

Peter Minos

“We in MPKS as public servants do not want any corrupt officer and any form of corrupt culture taking root,” said MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos.

Corruption kills, he said, adding, “That is why we called MACC to say that corruption can kill a nation and individuals.”

Minos said in due course, MPKS would need an Integrity Officer with support from MACC to see and monitor things and to prevent any form of corruption from happening.

Early detection and prevention of corruption is better than the cure, he said.

Minos said on April 1, MPKS and MACC will jointly organise an activity in Kota Samarahan to show that “we (MPKS) are friends of MACC”.

Present at today’s briefing were state MACC director Razim Mohd Noor and MACC senior officials.
